Purwokerto, August 15, 2025 – The Bachelor’s Study Programme of Sastra Inggris, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (FIB Unsoed) warmly welcomed 156 new students for the 2025/2026 academic year in the Pengenalan Program Studi (Study Programme Introduction) event, which is part of the series of activities for the Pengenalan Kehidupan Kampus bagi Mahasiswa Baru (PKKMB). This lively event was attended with great enthusiasm by the new students along with the faculty members.

The event opened with remarks from the Coordinator of the Sastra Inggris Study Programme, Dyah Raina Purwaningsih, S.S., M.Hum, who emphasized the importance of understanding the vision, mission, and academic values from the very beginning of the college journey. “We want new students to understand that Sastra Inggris is not just about language, but also about building cultural insights, critical thinking, and global communication skills that will be essential assets for the future,” she asserted.
Students were then introduced to the vision and mission of the Sastra Inggris Study Programme, which is to produce competent, adaptive, and globally competitive graduates while remaining rooted in cultural values and local wisdom. The explanation continued with a presentation on the curriculum, the lecture system, and the available specialization tracks, which include linguistics, literature, and translation studies.

In addition, the new students were also introduced to the teaching lecturers along with their areas of expertise. This session was an important opportunity for students to get to know the course instructors more closely, while also opening doors for close communication between students and lecturers from the very beginning of their study period.
With 156 new students, this introduction activity also strengthened the bond of togetherness and the spirit of family among the academic community. “We want students to feel that the Sastra Inggris Study Programme is a second home, a place where they grow, learn, and create,” added Dyah Raina.

In closing, the committee emphasized that this introduction activity is the first step toward a long academic journey.
