Semarang, August 14–15, 2025 — The Pendidikan Bahasa Jepang (Japanese Language Education) study programme at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) once again demonstrated its commitment at the national level by participating in the Workshop on Japanese Language Teaching organized by The Japan Foundation Jakarta at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). The event featured various important materials on Japanese language teaching strategies, including introduction and hands-on practice of Student Centered Learning (SCL), which has become the primary approach to 21st-century learning.
In this activity, PBJ Unsoed sent two lecturers, Dian Bayu Firmansyah, S.Pd., M.Pd. and Anggita Stovia, S.Pd., M.Pd., as well as seven students, namely Fasha Hegga Sholtanaju, Elsa Arum Ramadhani, M. Ridwan Hariri, Esa Nadia Putri, Zenanda Ajli Pamungkas, Maher Aldino, and Fazle Aisha Nur Adhwa’.
Dian Bayu Firmansyah, M.Pd., one of the accompanying lecturers who served as workshop facilitator, stated:
“This Japanese language teaching workshop from The Japan Foundation is one form of cooperation in developing student competencies as future educators. As a relatively new study programme, the invitation to participate in this highly impactful workshop activity has provided numerous impressions and benefits for student participants, particularly in the pedagogical aspects that future teachers must master. As facilitators, the lecturers also gained insight into the standards for teaching Japanese at the high school level for developing 21st-century skills.”
The workshop was designed to enhance the competencies of prospective Japanese language educators in Indonesia, with a focus on implementing Student Centered Learning (SCL). This method emphasizes the active role of students in the learning process, where the teacher acts as a facilitator who creates an interactive, collaborative, and contemporary learning environment. Over two days, workshop participants gained deep understanding of modern pedagogical concepts, strategies for preparing Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP) or Lesson Plan, as well as classroom management techniques to create a conducive learning atmosphere. Additionally, participants were directly involved in teaching practice activities or micro teaching, which provided a valuable opportunity to practice pedagogical skills in real situations.
For the PBJ Unsoed study programme, which is relatively newly established, the opportunity to participate in this workshop represents an important step in strengthening academic quality, particularly in developing students’ pedagogical aspects. Through this activity, students not only gained new insights into Japanese language teaching strategies but also built networks with students and lecturers from various other universities across Indonesia. The participation of lecturers in this workshop also forms part of the study programme’s efforts to support the professional development of educators and ensure that the curriculum and learning methods implemented at PBJ Unsoed remain relevant to the latest developments in education.
