Purwokerto, June 25, 2025 — The Fakultas Ilmu Budaya (FIB) of Universitas Jenderal Soedirman organized a Scientific Literacy Training Workshop with the theme “Building an Intellectual Generation,” held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. The event featured Dr. Sutrimo Purnomo, S.Pd., M.Pd., as the main speaker, an academic and educational practitioner who has made significant contributions to the development of academic literacy and research methodology among students.
The workshop was designed as a response to the challenges of information literacy in an increasingly complex digital era. The main objective of this activity is to enhance students’ understanding and skills in verifying information, distinguishing credible sources, and preparing academic papers that are systematic and in accordance with academic ethics.
In his presentation, Dr. Sutrimo emphasized the importance of scientific literacy as a foundation for critical thinking and a tool to combat misinformation widely circulating on various digital platforms. He also presented various strategies for writing quality academic papers, ranging from problem identification, background writing, objective formulation, to the compilation of bibliographies in accordance with academic standards.
“Scientific literacy capability is not just about writing papers, but about how students are able to think methodologically, critically, and argumentatively in addressing various issues around them,” said Dr. Sutrimo to the participants.
The activity was attended by students from various study programmes within FIB UNSOED with high enthusiasm. The discussion session was dynamic, demonstrating students’ interest in the topic discussed as well as the need for continuous academic guidance.
According to Muhammad Ahsanu, S.Pd., M.Hum., Ph.D., a lecturer and Chair of the Pusat Informasi Ilmiah (PII), the Scientific Literacy Workshop is an initial step in building a stronger academic tradition within FIB.
“We hope this activity does not stop as a ceremonial event, but becomes a catalyst for the emergence of a productive, inclusive, and research-based academic ecosystem. This is part of our commitment to encourage students to become academic individuals who think openly, with integrity, and are competitive,” he explained.
With the successful implementation of this activity, FIB UNSOED affirms its strategic role in equipping the younger generation with relevant intellectual skills rooted in academic values. This workshop is expected to become a continuous program that will continue to be developed to strengthen scientific literacy culture within the campus environment.
