Purwokerto, 22 May 2025 – The Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Study Programme, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya (FIB) Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed), successfully held a Guest Lecturer Session on Thursday, 22 May 2025 online via Zoom Meeting platform. The event featured Ibu Rinawati, S.S., M.Hum., a lecturer from Universitas Islam Sultan Agung (Unissula) Semarang, with material titled “Purposeful English: Innovative Materials for Meaningful Speaking and Reading.”
The event was officially opened by the Dean of Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Unsoed, Prof. Dr. Ely Tri Asih Rahayu, M.Hum., who expressed appreciation for the Study Programme’s initiative in enriching students’ academic knowledge through inter-institutional collaboration. The following remarks were delivered by the Head of Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Study Programme, Bapak Slamet Riyadi, S.S., M.Pd., who emphasized the importance of this activity as part of efforts to improve graduate quality, particularly in English language teaching based on specific needs or English for Specific Purposes (ESP).
This public lecture was moderated by Bapak Mustasyfa Thabib Kariadi, S.Pd., M.Pd., one of the lecturers of Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Study Programme at Unsoed, and was attended enthusiastically by approximately 100 participants consisting of lecturers and students from the Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Study Programme.

With a communicative and interactive presentation style, Ibu Rinawati successfully created an engaging learning atmosphere. The participants, both students and lecturers, demonstrated high enthusiasm throughout the activity. As a form of appreciation, several active participants were given rewards for their participation.
Through this activity, it is hoped that students can broaden their insights and knowledge regarding a more contextual and applicable approach to English language teaching, and that this will serve as valuable preparation for becoming professional educators in the future.
