Jakarta, July 20, 2024 – In an effort to enhance translation competency within a Competitive Funding program, Mandarin language lecturers from various educational institutions throughout Indonesia, including lecturers from the D3 Bahasa Mandarin study programme at Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (FIB Unsoed), participated in the National Translator Certification Exam (TSN) organized by the Association of Indonesian Translators (Himpunan Penerjemah Indonesia – HPI). This activity took place simultaneously in two cities, Jakarta and Malang, on July 20, 2024.
Translation is an essential skill for Mandarin language lecturers, particularly in academic and professional contexts. Certification from HPI is recognized nationally and provides quality assurance for translators who have passed this competency test. Therefore, taking the TSN Translator exam is a strategic step for lecturers to enhance their abilities and credibility in the field of translation. With better translation competency, lecturers can develop teaching materials that are more accurate and relevant, and provide more effective guidance to students interested in translation. Furthermore, certified lecturers contribute positively to their institutions. Their expertise in translation can be utilized to assist universities in various international collaborations and conference organization. Benefits for FIB and students will also be realized as lecturers with improved translation competency can prepare more accurate and relevant teaching materials and provide more effective guidance to students interested in translation. Certainly, this aligns with the vision and mission of the D3 Bahasa Mandarin study programme.
Dr. Dyah Tjaturrini, M.Si, a Mandarin language lecturer from the D3 Bahasa Mandarin study programme at FIB Unsoed, stated, “Participating in the HPI Translator TSN is a valuable experience. This exam is challenging and encourages me to improve my translation abilities. This certification is very important for my career as a lecturer and translator.”
With enhanced competency, the lecturers are expected to make greater contributions in academic and professional fields, as well as help elevate the quality of translation in Indonesia to a higher level. This activity also opens opportunities for broader collaboration and career development for the participating lecturers.
