Purwokerto, 26 August 2025 – The Pendidikan Bahasa Jepang Study Programme, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (FIB Unsoed), has once again demonstrated its commitment to preparing graduates who are adaptive and competent in the era of digital communication. This time, the Study Programme presented a professional practitioner, Sulfambara Rahmat Arsyad, S.I.Kom., in a practitioner lecturer session titled “Public Speaking Skill in Digital, Social, and Visual Media”. The event, held within FIB Unsoed, was enthusiastically welcomed by students, not only from the Pendidikan Bahasa Jepang Study Programme, but also from various other study programmes across FIB who took part.
In his presentation, Sulfambara Rahmat Arsyad, affectionately known as Kak Bara—widely recognized as a digital communication practitioner—shared in-depth insights into the importance of public speaking skills in facing the challenges of today’s professional world. He explained that communication is no longer confined to physical stages, but extends into digital spaces, social media, and visual media. “The ability to speak in public is no longer an option, but a necessity. Especially in this all-digital era, everyone is essentially a public communicator,” Bara emphasized during his opening session.
This practitioner lecture was not merely theoretical, but was designed with an interactive, practical approach. Students were guided to understand the fundamental concepts of public speaking, including how to build self-confidence, manage intonation and expressions, and read the audience.
Furthermore, participants were invited to learn basic public speaking techniques, such as engaging opening statements, storytelling in presentations, and strategies to overcome nervousness in front of an audience. Most interestingly, students were also directly involved in a public speaking demonstration and simulation session, where they were challenged to practice the material they had learned. This session was dynamic and spirited, showcasing the students’ courage and creativity in presenting their ideas before an audience.
The Coordinator of the Pendidikan Bahasa Jepang Study Programme, Dr. Haryono, S.S., M.Pd., stated in his welcoming remarks that this practitioner lecture is part of the study programme’s efforts to equip students with relevant soft skills needed in the workforce. “Public speaking is an essential skill that supports graduates’ careers, whether as educators, communicators, or professionals in various fields. The presence of a practitioner like Mr. Sulfambara provides students with a real-world perspective on the professional sphere,” he said.
Students responded positively and participated in the event with great enthusiasm. Many felt the session opened their eyes to the importance of projecting confidence and delivering ideas effectively, both in person and across digital platforms. “I now have a clearer understanding of how to deliver an engaging presentation that isn’t boring. The simulation was extremely helpful for assessing my abilities,” said Atallah, a participant from PBJ Unsoed.
Through this practitioner lecture, the Pendidikan Bahasa Jepang Study Programme at FIB Unsoed demonstrates its support for the Kampus Berdampak initiative by actively involving industry professionals in the learning process. This collaboration is expected to continue, enriching student experiences and bridging the academic sphere with the demands of the modern communications industry.
