Purwokerto, March 21, 2025 — Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) and Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP) continue to strengthen collaboration in education through the implementation of a visiting lecturer exchange program for the Academic Writing course. This program is a concrete manifestation of the implementation of Dharma 1, namely education, within the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education). In addition to aiming to improve the quality of learning, this program is also designed to enrich the academic experience of students at both institutions.
In this activity, two lecturers from Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Unsoed, namely Mia Fitria Agustina, S.S., M.A. and Eka Dyah Puspita Sari, S.Pd., M.Hum., served as visiting lecturers at the Sastra Inggris study programme of UMP. Over three consecutive sessions, the two delivered structured material to strengthen students’ basic skills in academic writing.

Mia Fitria Agustina, S.S., M.A., began the series of lectures with the topic What Paragraph Is, which discussed the basic concept of paragraphs. Next, she delivered material on A Topic Sentence and Supporting Sentences, aimed at equipping students with the ability to construct logical and well-structured paragraphs as a foundation for good academic writing.
Following that session, Eka Dyah Puspita Sari, S.Pd., M.Hum., continued with more advanced topics, namely What Essay Is, An Introductory Paragraph, and Body Paragraphs. In this material, students were invited to understand the structure of an essay in depth, learn how to compose an engaging introductory paragraph, and develop the content of an essay logically and coherently.
This lecturer exchange program not only enriches students’ knowledge of various approaches and techniques in academic writing from the perspective of Unsoed lecturers, but also strengthens the synergy between the two institutions. Through this collaboration, it is hoped that a broader partnership relationship can be created in various fields, particularly to improve the quality of higher education in Indonesia.
As part of the implementation of the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi, this program affirms the commitment of Unsoed and UMP to creating a dynamic, adaptive, innovative, and collaborative educational ecosystem. It is hoped that this activity will produce competent graduates who are ready to compete, both at the national and international levels.
With the implementation of this program, the Sastra Inggris undergraduate study programme appreciates the support from both parties who have contributed to the success of this activity. Going forward, it is hoped that similar activities can continue to be carried out to broaden students’ knowledge and experience, as well as to improve the overall quality of higher education in Indonesia.
