Purwokerto – “There is a relationship between graphemes and phonemes in English and Indonesian, known as grapheme-phoneme correspondence,” said Dr. Fauzi Syamsuar, a linguist from Universitas Pertiwi, during a public lecture for students and lecturers of the Master’s Programme in Linguistics, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Purwokerto. He explored phonology in depth, covering aspects such as sound production, phonemes, allophones, and morphophonemics in both English and Nusantara languages.
The public lecture, held on Monday morning, 10 November 2025, at 9:00 AM in the Meeting Room of Gedung Sri Wahyuti, presented an engaging topic: Phonology in Microlinguistic Studies. “The goal is to enhance academic insight and enrich lecture materials in the field of linguistics, especially Phonology,” explained the coordinator of the Unsoed Master’s Programme in Linguistics, Dr. Farida Nuryantiningsih. The event was attended by all students and lecturers of the Master’s Programme in Linguistics, including the Dean and Vice Dean 1 of Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, Prof. Ely Triasih Rahayu and Dr. Chusni Hadiati. It is hoped that the Unsoed Master’s Programme in Linguistics will consistently hold public lectures like this as an effort to improve the quality of learning in this new study programme. (PJ)
