Purwokerto 20/08/2025– Fakultas Ilmu Budaya (FIB) Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) established a partnership with Balai Bahasa Provinsi Jawa Tengah through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) which took place on Wednesday (20/08/2025), located in the Dean’s Office Room of FIB Unsoed.
This event was attended by leadership ranks from both parties. Present from Balai Bahasa were: Dwi Laily Sukmawati, S.Pd., M.Hum., as the Head of Balai Bahasa Provinsi Jawa Tengah, Andi as Head of Sub-division of General Affairs, Citra from the BIPA program, Ira and Titik from the Public Relations and Cooperation division, and Prita as the UKBI Coordinator.
Meanwhile from FIB Unsoed, Dean of FIB Prof. Dr. Ely Triasih Rahayu, S.S., M.Hum., Vice Deans of FIB, Head of Cooperation Team, Head of Department of Sastra Indonesia, Head of Department of Languages and Literature of East Asia, Coordinator of Pendidikan Bahasa Jepang Study Programme, as well as the Domestic Cooperation Team were also present.

In her remarks, the Dean of FIB Unsoed, Prof. Ely expressed her welcome to the team from Balai Bahasa Provinsi Jawa Tengah and presented several strategic collaboration ideas, especially in organizing the Indonesian Language Proficiency Test (UKBI). She emphasized the importance of UKBI as one of the graduation requirements for students of the Pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia and Sastra Indonesia Study Programme, as well as for international students.
“FIB Unsoed is ready to become the center for administering UKBI in the southern region of Central Java,” emphasized Prof. Ely. She also hopes that UKBI can be directly facilitated from FIB Unsoed as an Indonesian language testing center.
Responding to this, the Head of Balai Bahasa Provinsi Jawa Tengah, Dwi Laily Sukmawati, S.Pd., M.Hum., expressed appreciation for the warm welcome from FIB Unsoed. In her explanation, Dwi Laily introduced the flagship programs of Balai Bahasa, including UKBI which is now free of charge for junior and senior high school students, and available at an affordable fee of IDR 100,000 for university students. The UKBI certificate is sent directly via email to each participant, and the test can be taken collectively or individually.
In addition to UKBI, Dwi Laily also presented the SIBAJA (Senarai Istilah Budaya Jawa) program, a digital initiative aimed at introducing Javanese cultural terms. She suggested that FIB Unsoed link its official website with SIBAJA as a form of synergy in preserving local culture.
During the discussion session, Andi from Balai Bahasa opened internship opportunities for students from all language study programmes at FIB Unsoed. This internship activity focuses on the field of translation, specifically the translation of regional stories.
The Head of Department of Sastra Indonesia, Siti Junawaroh, welcomed this collaboration and stated that starting from the 2024 cohort, Sastra Indonesia students are required to take the UKBI. She also added that currently there are 23 students from Sastra Indonesia undergoing internships at Balai Bahasa Jawa Tengah.
Meanwhile, Bu Tri Asiati conveyed the importance of clear regulations for internship activities, particularly for students of the Pendidikan Bahasa Mandarin Study Programme. Dwi Laily affirmed that to apply for an internship, the study programme can submit an official letter to Balai Bahasa Provinsi Jawa Tengah.
Through the signing of this PKS, FIB Unsoed and Balai Bahasa Provinsi Jawa Tengah reaffirm their commitment to developing linguistic competence and cultural preservation among academics and the broader public.
