Purwokerto, 13/03/2025. After passing the faculty-level selection in February 2025, one delegation team from the Indonesian Student Debate Competition (KDMI) and one delegation team from the National University Debating Championship (NUDC) participated in the Indonesian Debate Competition (LDI) selection at the level of Universitas Jenderal Soedirman on March 11-14, 2025. The FIB KDMI delegation was represented by Nanda Putri M (Prodi S1 Pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia), Widya Nuraini A.S. (Prodi S1 Sastra Indonesia), and Anggita Permatasari (Prodi D3 Mandarin). Meanwhile, the NUDC delegation was represented by Eleonora Adinda Wulan Hapsari, Desya Elma Nizami, and Hayu Havilah Subekti, all three of whom are students of Prodi S1 Sastra Inggris.
Prior to competing in the university-level LDI selection, the delegations participated in debate training regularly held at the faculty level. Accompanied by professional debate coaches together with the Student Activity Unit (UKM) Humanity Department English Club (Hudec), the debaters prepared debate materials and debating skills for almost one month. They also conducted sparring partner sessions with debate delegations from other faculties within Unsoed. This was done to increase the debaters’ experience and also to practice argumentation sharpness and build confidence.
Competing alongside debaters representing all faculties within Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, the FIB LDI delegations demonstrated extraordinary enthusiasm and fighting spirit. As a result, both teams managed to secure positions in the top five delegations of the LDI at the university level. This achievement is a source of pride for Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, considering that the competition in this event is very tight with many participants who have solid debate experience.
The achievements gained by the FIB delegation are expected to serve as motivation for other students to participate in debate competitions at the university and national levels. Furthermore, this success also proves that FIB students have great potential in the field of debate, which not only hones speaking skills but also trains critical and analytical thinking.
The Advisor of UKM Hudec Debate Society Division and also the LDI Advisor, Ririn Kurnia Trisnawati, S.S., M.A, expressed appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the delegations. She hopes that this achievement will continue to be improved and that FIB students become increasingly active in various other academic events. Fakultas Ilmu Budaya will continue to support and facilitate debate activities so that they further develop and are able to compete at higher levels. With full support from the faculty and the students’ fighting spirit, it is hoped that FIB’s achievements in debate competitions will shine even more brightly in the future.
