Purwokerto, 14/03/2025. A proud achievement has been recorded by Desya Elma Nizami, a student of the S1 Sastra Inggris study programme at Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, who was named 2nd Best Speaker at the Lomba Debat Indonesia (LDI), in the National University Debating Championship (NUDC) branch at the Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) level. With this achievement, Desya Elma is entitled to take part in the selection process and intensive training organised by Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, with the opportunity to represent Unsoed in the NUDC selection stage at the Regional level.

The NUDC selection was held at the university level on 13-14 March 2025. Fakultas Ilmu Budaya sent two debaters, Eleonora Adinda Wulan Hapsari and Desya Elma Nizami, along with one N1-Adjudicator, Hayu Havilah Subekti. They are students of the S1 Sastra Inggris study programme who had previously passed the selection at the Faculty level held on 13 February 2025. The rigorous selection process at the Faculty level is proof that this competition tests not only speaking and critical thinking skills, but also the mental readiness and insight of participants regarding various global issues.
NUDC is one of the LDI branches that is regularly held every year, both at the faculty and university levels. The results of the university-level selection, with the achievement of 2nd Best Speaker, demonstrate the consistent achievements of debaters from FIB, who each year manage to reach the Top 5 Best Speaker of NUDC. This success further strengthens FIB’s position as one of the faculties with a strong and competitive tradition in debate.
The consistent achievements of FIB’s NUDC Debaters are the result of good synergy and cooperation between the Student Affairs division, particularly the FIB student affairs staff, the Student Activity Unit (UKM) Humanity Department English Club (Hudec), and the Vice Dean for Student Affairs. Support from various parties, including mentors and alumni, has also played a role in creating a conducive environment for students to develop their debating skills. This good synergy has produced highly satisfying achievements and is expected to continue in the years to come.
Going forward, the Debaters team at FIB, which has been formed under the coordination of UKM Hudec, will continue to train diligently and compete in other debate competitions. With increasing opportunities to take part in debate tournaments at the national and international levels, FIB students are expected to continue achieving accomplishments that make FIB proud and bring honour to the university on a wider stage.
