PURWOKERTO – The Sastra Inggris study programme at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman held a guest lecturer session online via Zoom Meeting on Tuesday (25/05/2021). This year’s guest lecturer session focused on the translation concentration. The event invited an experienced translation practitioner who has translated more than 100 books, Dina Begum. Additionally, the session was facilitated by a Sastra Inggris lecturer with considerable experience in translation both theoretically and practically, Ibu Ambhita Dhyaningrum, S.S., M.Hum. More than 80 participants consisting of students and lecturers from Sastra Inggris joined the event via Zoom Meeting. Furthermore, the event was also streamed live through the English Language and Literature Department’s YouTube channel.
The event carried the theme “Challenges of the Translation Profession: More Than Just Language Transfer”. The resource speaker presented material at the beginning of the event, followed by a discussion session with questions from students. Many students were enthusiastic in asking questions related to the translation profession. Three students with the best questions even received three books that were translations by the resource speaker. This event is expected to provide insight and motivation for Sastra Inggris students regarding the translation profession, especially for students who are concentrating in translation.
