In collaboration with Himpunan Penerjemah Indonesia (HPI), the Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Study Programme and Fakultas Ilmu Budaya facilitated three events that marked the beginning of collaboration between HPI and Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Universitas Jenderal Soedirman. The first agenda implemented by HPI and Fakultas Ilmu Budaya was the signing of a cooperation agreement between both parties. Through this cooperation agreement, it is hoped that both parties will be able to facilitate students at Fakultas Ilmu Budaya to further develop their potential in the field of translation.
As a way to introduce the translation profession, industry, and organization, the Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Study Programme held a guest lecturer session with the theme “Translation Profession and Industry Needs” on Friday, November 11, 2022 in the auditorium of Gedung Bambang Lelono, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya. Featuring Anna Wiksmadhara, the general secretary of HPI, this general lecture session attended by students from the Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Study Programme from the 2019, 2021, and 2022 cohorts was conducted in a very interactive manner.
Students were very enthusiastic in hearing the materials and experiences presented by the speaker. Additionally, in the second session of the general lecture, the speaker introduced the translation of legal and business texts and then invited participants to practice translating several sentences found in legal and business text documents. Through this general lecture, students are expected to be able to gain deeper insight into the world of translation, industry needs related to the translation field, and the possibility of pursuing a career as a translator or interpreter.
