On Wednesday (17/11/2021) Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Unsoed held a Training on Entering the World of Work event for Prospective Graduates of the December 2021 Graduation Period. The event was conducted in hybrid format (online and in-person) at the Aula Gedung D, FIB Unsoed.
Attending the event was the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni of FIB Unsoed, Idah Hamidah, M.Hum. In her remarks, she conveyed that the event aims to equip prospective graduates to be better prepared to enter the world of work after graduation.
“FIB Unsoed continues to strive to produce the best graduates who are ready to enter the world of work, or even create job opportunities.
Serving as a resource person was Ja’faruddin (director of PT. Media Wartatama Berdikari/ jogjakartanews.com) and also an alumnus of FIB Unsoed. On this occasion, Jafar, who was also former President of BEM FIB 2005, provided motivation and tips on starting entrepreneurship.
He stated that entrepreneurship is a mindset or way of thinking that can be adopted by anyone, including himself who works as a journalist. According to him, language is the key to success because language is related to all aspects of life.
“I am grateful and proud to be an alumnus of FIB Unsoed. Ideally, FIB Unsoed alumni should not be confused after graduation. Usually after graduating, if they don’t continue to a master’s degree, they look for a job. If they are immediately accepted, that’s fine. But, if they are not accepted and then become unemployed, that’s the problem. Unemployment is a burden on families and even on the state,” said this alumnus of the Sarjana Bahasa dan Sastra Program (FIB) Unsoed class of 2002.
The author of the novels ‘Bulan Separuh Purnama’ and ‘Dongeng Binatang Politik’ added that currently the rate of open unemployment in Indonesia is quite high, especially during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
According to him, entrepreneurship is an alternative to earn income besides working in government institutions or companies. In fact, entrepreneurship is a creator of job opportunities, at minimum creating employment for oneself or to meet one’s own needs.
“Entrepreneurs are productive and independent people. After starting a business, they seek mentoring so it can develop. Once successful, it will create job opportunities for others. This is a simple parameter for a quality university, namely producing alumni who are job creators or creators, not followers,” concluded the journalist who also engages in entrepreneurship in the field of printing and publishing.
