Purwokerto, May 17, 2024 – The Sastra Inggris Study Programme, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya (FIB), Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) held a guest lecturer class with the topic “Introduction to Interpreting” on Friday, May 17, 2024. The event was held at the Aula Fakultas Peternakan Unsoed and featured Inanti Pinintakasih Diran as the resource person.
In her remarks, Dr. Ely Triasih Rahayu, S.S., M.Hum., expressed her gratitude to the resource person for being willing to share knowledge and experience with the students. Dr. Ely also emphasized the importance of interpreting skills in this era of globalization. “With good interpreting abilities, students can serve as a bridge for intercultural communication,” she said.
Coordinator of the S1 Sastra Inggris Study Programme, Dyah Rayna Purwaningsih, S.S., M.Hum., added that this class is part of the study programme’s efforts to equip students with practical skills needed in the workplace. “We hope that through this class, students not only understand the theory of interpreting, but are also able to practice these skills directly,” said Dyah Rayna.
The event was attended by a number of enthusiastic Sastra Inggris students who followed each session. Inanti Pinintakasih Diran, known as an expert in the field of interpreting, provided an in-depth presentation on the fundamentals and techniques of interpreting. Additionally, participants were given the opportunity to practice interpreting in various simulated situations, allowing them to directly experience the challenges and dynamics of this profession.
One of the participants, Aryara, shared her impressions after attending this class. “I was very inspired by the material presented by Mrs. Inanti. The opportunity to practice directly was very helpful for me to understand how the interpreting process is conducted,” she said.
This guest lecturer class is expected to serve as an initial step for Sastra Inggris students at FIB Unsoed to further deepen and master interpreting, and to be prepared to face challenges in the global workplace.
