(Wednesday, July 29, 2020) The Pendidikan Bahasa Department held an orientation program for Magang 1, Magang 2, and PLP as an effort to enhance student readiness for deployment to several partner schools as a form of training for prospective educators, with all faculty members involved in this program and the Head of Pendidikan Bahasa Department in attendance. The Magang 1 and Magang 2 programs are compulsory practical courses conducted by Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris students in the 3rd and 5th semesters. Meanwhile, the PLP program is a teaching practice course at partner schools followed by students from Pendidikan Bahasa and Sastra Indonesia and Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris in the 7th semester.
The Magang 1, Magang 2, and PLP orientation was conducted online and attended by all members of the dean’s office, ranging from the Dean, Vice Deans, Department Heads, Program Coordinators, faculty members, and students from the Pendidikan Bahasa Department. All students were required to participate in every session of this orientation by joining through Google Meet, with the link announced prior to the event. The orientation began with singing the Indonesian national anthem, followed by an opening address from the Dean of Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, Ibu Dra. Roch Widjatini, M.Si., who officially opened the orientation program. There were several resource persons who presented information on curriculum implementation in schools.
The first resource person was Bapak Tri Anggoro, S.Pd., a teacher and vice principal for curriculum at SMA Negeri 4 Purwokerto. He presented material on curriculum implementation and online learning in upper secondary schools. He conveyed several important points regarding the situation, methods, challenges, and solutions that school teachers experience and face in conducting online learning which is still being developed collectively to teach students. The second resource person was Ibu Umi Zaenab, S.Pd., an Indonesian Language teacher at SMP Negeri 1 Purwokerto. She clearly shared knowledge regarding distance learning mechanisms, curriculum, learning resources, and online classroom management in junior secondary schools.
The third resource person was Ibu Lalita Melasarianti, M.Pd. She explained Teacher Ethics and Profession from a contemporary perspective. In her presentation, she explained that a teacher must set an example for their students so that academic concepts are accompanied by good moral modeling. In the following session, there was a session on presenting the mechanisms for implementing Magang 1, Magang 2, and PLP online by faculty members including: Ibu Nisa Roiyasa, S.Pd., M.TESOL and Ibu Erna Wardani, S.Pd., M.Hum. who explained the Magang 1 mechanism; Ibu Dian Adiarti, M.Hum and Ibu Novita Pri Andini, M.Pd. who explained the Magang 2 mechanism; Pak M. Riyanton, M.Pd. and Pak Bivit Anggoro Prasetyo Nugroho, S.Pd., M.Pd. who explained the PLP mechanism. Students were provided with links according to their program placements. Finally, this orientation activity was closed by the Head of Pendidikan Bahasa Department, Ibu Tuti Purwati, S.S., M.Pd.
