Purwokerto – The Bachelor’s Programme in Sastra Inggris at Fakultas Ilmu Budaya (FIB) of Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) held a send-off ceremony for students participating in the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) internship programme on Friday, 28 February 2025. The event, held at Aula Bambang Lelono, was attended by participating intern students, lecturers from the Sastra Inggris programme, and the dean of FIB Unsoed.

Dean of FIB Unsoed, Prof. Ely Triasih Rahayu, S.S., M.Hum., in her remarks conveyed that the internship programme is a golden opportunity for students to gain work experience before graduation. “Make the best use of this internship period. Good academic grades are certainly important, but enthusiasm and good work performance will be added value for you in the working world later”. She emphasized that the internship programme not only provides work experience, but also opens opportunities for students to be recruited by the companies where they intern. “Many companies directly recruit students who demonstrate good performance during the internship process at the institution. This is an advantage for you to be able to enter the working world faster,” she explained.
Furthermore, she stressed that students with work experience will be more valued compared to those who only rely on a high Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA). Therefore, students are expected to make use of this opportunity to hone professional skills and prepare themselves for job interviews.

On the same occasion, Programme Coordinator, Dyah Raina Purwaningsih, S.S., M.Hum., also provided guidance to students to make the best use of the internship opportunity, not only for grade conversion purposes.
This send-off ceremony also highlighted the achievements of Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Unsoed in preparing job-ready graduates. Based on the latest data, the rate of achievement of graduates who are employed in a timely manner from Fakultas Ilmu Budaya ranks second highest at Unsoed. This is evidence that the academic and MBKM programmes implemented by FIB have successfully equipped students with the competencies needed in the working world.
A total of 56 students will be deployed to several institutions such as Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI), Dinas Arsip dan Perpustakaan Daerah, Lembaga Bahasa LIA, Artimure Translate, Perusahaan Daerah Air Minum (PDAM), PT. Telkom, Dinas Kominfo, Radar Banyumas, and several other institutions both within and outside Purwokerto. With this MBKM internship programme, it is hoped that students can develop their abilities and increase their competitiveness after graduation. This send-off is a first step for students to directly enter the professional world and apply the knowledge they have learned in the classroom.
