Purwokerto, Indonesia – On April 29, 2024, the Sastra Inggris programme at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) held an international guest workshop titled “Speak up and Stand out: Enhancing Self Confidence through Speaking Skill“. The event aimed to enhance self-confidence and English speaking proficiency among students.
The workshop was held at Aula Bambang Lelono FIB Unsoed and featured Ms. Marya Tinkova Marinova from Sofia University, Bulgaria, as the main speaker. With diverse experience and insights, Ms. Marinova discussed effective techniques for strengthening self-confidence through public speaking.
The event was attended by faculty members and students, as well as Dr. Lynda Susana Widya Ayu Fatmawaty, S.S., M.Hum., as Head of the Department of English Language and Literature at Unsoed, who warmly welcomed the guests and participants.

In her presentation, Ms. Marinova presented various strategies and practical tips to help participants express their thoughts clearly and confidently. She highlighted the importance of communication skills in personal and professional development, and emphasized the positive impact of speaking with confidence.
Dr. Lynda described, “The ability to speak fluently and confidently is not merely a skill, but also a key to success in today’s globalized era.”
The workshop session was marked by interactive discussions and hands-on exercises to hone participants’ speaking abilities. Through various exercises and feedback, participants were able to overcome public speaking anxiety and improve their speaking fluency.
Dr. Fatmawaty expressed appreciation to Ms. Marinova for her valuable contribution in enhancing the quality of education at Unsoed. “Events like this not only enrich our academic experience, but also equip students with relevant skills in the education and professional world,” she said.
Participants left the workshop with renewed enthusiasm and commitment to continue developing their speaking abilities.
