Purwokerto, 19/11/2025. Fakultas Ilmu Budaya (FIB) Universitas Jenderal Soedirman received an educational visit from SMA Kristen Purwokerto on Wednesday (19/11). This activity is part of the university introduction program for students, specifically to provide insights into academic life and study opportunities at FIB Unsoed.
The event was officially opened by the Dean of Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, who in his remarks expressed appreciation for the school’s trust in making FIB one of the destinations for the educational visit. In his presentation, the Dean emphasized that FIB remains committed to being an outstanding faculty in the development of the humanities, as well as actively playing a role in various cultural activities, research, and community service.
In addition, the Dean also introduced the study programmes at Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, namely Sastra Indonesia, Sastra Inggris, Sastra Jepang, Pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia, Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Pendidikan Bahasa Jepang, D3 Bahasa Inggris, D3 Bahasa Mandarin, and S2 Linguistik. Each study programme was briefly explained, ranging from the curriculum, graduate profile opportunities, student activities, to relevant career opportunities in today’s digital era and creative industries. The students seemed enthusiastic listening to the explanations and asked several questions related to their interests in the world of language, literature, and culture.
One of the sessions that received great attention from the students was the student testimonials from each study programme. Students from the Sastra Indonesia study programme shared their internship experiences at the Balai Bahasa Jawa Tengah, which enriched their writing and linguistic research skills. Meanwhile, students from the Sastra Inggris study programme shared their experience of interning abroad, namely in Malaysia, which provided an opportunity to hone cross-cultural communication skills and understand international work dynamics.
From the Sastra Jepang study programme, students shared inspiring stories about their internship experiences in Japan in the industrial sector, which helped them improve their language proficiency and understand Japanese work culture firsthand. Meanwhile, students from the Pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia and Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris study programmes shared their experiences interning at partner schools, which strengthened their pedagogical competence and practical teaching skills.

After the testimonial session, the participants continued their activities with a campus tour guided by a team of FIB students and lecturers. The group was invited to visit the Pusat Informasi Ilmiah (PII) FIB, where students obtain various academic literature sources. At that location, the students were given explanations regarding the utilization of the digital library, book collections, as well as other learning support facilities.
The visit then continued to the laboratories within FIB, including the language laboratory. The students were given the opportunity to directly observe the technology-based learning process, language practice facilities, as well as various academic activities usually carried out by students.
Through this activity, it is hoped that the students of SMA Kristen Purwokerto will gain a clearer picture of the academic atmosphere at Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Unsoed. This educational visit not only broadens the students’ horizons but also strengthens the relationship between secondary education and higher education, particularly in supporting the development of young generation’s interests and talents in the field of humanities. In addition, this activity also demonstrates various self-development opportunities through internships, both domestically and abroad, thereby further motivating students to plan their academic future.
