Purwokerto, June 30, 2023 – The Sastra Inggris study programme of Fakultas Ilmu Budaya (FIB) Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) has implemented classroom observation activities for the Even Semester of the 2022/2023 Academic Year. The activities conducted by the Quality Assurance Team (Gugus Kendali Mutu/GKM) aimed to evaluate and monitor the ongoing learning process and to ensure that academic activities are implemented in accordance with established standards.
Classroom Observation: Assessing Lecturer and Student Performance
This classroom observation activity encompassed several important aspects, ranging from lecturer and student attendance, evaluation of lecturer performance by the GKM Team, to student assessment of lecturer performance through questionnaires. All lecturers teaching courses in the Sastra Inggris programme were recorded as present according to the lecture schedule, with an average attendance rate of 100% across 16 meetings during the semester.
According to the report compiled by the GKM Team, the learning process in the classroom proceeded well and in accordance with the lecture contract (RPS). Lecturers in the Sastra Inggris programme have implemented teaching systematically and on time, while applying effective and interactive learning methods.
Lecturer Performance Assessment: “Excellent”
Lecturer performance was assessed through two methods: direct observation by the GKM team and questionnaire results completed by students. Based on the observation, all lecturers in the Sastra Inggris programme at Unsoed received a “good” rating on various indicators, such as the ability to present material clearly, the use of varied learning methods, and the ability to create a conducive academic atmosphere.
“The teaching process in the Sastra Inggris programme is excellent. Lecturers have demonstrated high dedication in teaching and supporting the creation of a democratic and interactive learning environment,” said Usep Muttaqin, S.S., M.A., Chair of the Quality Assurance Team of the Sastra Inggris programme.
Student Questionnaire Results: Lecturers Rated Highly Competent
In addition to direct observation, lecturer performance assessment was also conducted through questionnaires distributed to students. The results showed that the majority of students gave positive ratings of lecturer performance. Students in the Sastra Inggris programme rated lecturers as highly competent in delivering lecture material and capable of establishing good communication with students. Most lecturers also received “excellent” scores on indicators such as mastery of material, cooperative attitude, and effective use of learning media.
Recommendations for Improving Learning
Although the evaluation results showed very good achievement, the GKM Team provided several recommendations to further improve the quality of learning in the next semester. These recommendations include increasing the variety of learning methods, providing more comprehensive materials, and improving communication regarding changes to the lecture schedule.
“Lecturers are advised to use more innovative learning methods that actively involve students. Additionally, learning materials should be supplemented with more comprehensive teaching materials so that students can better understand the topics being taught,” added Usep Muttaqin.
Conclusion: Learning Proceeding According to Standards
Overall, the results of this classroom observation show that the learning process in the Sastra Inggris programme of FIB Unsoed has proceeded well and in accordance with established standards. Although there are some recommendations for improvement, the quality of learning provided is already very good and is expected to continue to improve in the future.
