Yogyakarta, 14 May 2025 – Becoming a professional staff member in the field of language and literature is one of the graduate profiles of the Sastra Inggris Study Programme, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya (FIB) Unsoed. Publishing staff is one of several professions that requires language skills, and thus should be targeted as an alternative in the future job market. In line with this, Penerbit Bening Rua Pustaka became one of the partners of the Sastra Inggris Programme FIB Unsoed to conduct an internship program for the 2022 cohort students. This internship activity is part of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) scheme. The program, which ran from early March to early July 2025, was followed online by three Sastra Inggris Unsoed students from the 2022 cohort: Agustinus Donny, Rezky Syachrizal, and Adista Awalisti. Although conducted online, they remained active and productive throughout all internship activities.
To ensure the internship activities proceeded as planned, the Sastra Inggris Programme conducted monitoring and evaluation (monev) at Penerbit Bening Rua Pustaka guided by Dr. Raden Pujo Handoyo, M.Hum as the Field Supervisor (DPL). The three students explained that they gained many benefits from this internship activity. The students expressed numerous advantages they obtained from this program. They felt more confident in writing, editing, and understanding the publishing workflow. The tasks assigned included manuscript proofreading, book review writing, and video review production that were subsequently published through the publisher’s official social media channels. This activity became part of digital book promotion efforts that are currently highly relevant to content marketing trends.
Intensive communication with Bapak Ganjar as mentor from the publisher side also ran smoothly. Students received constructive feedback to improve the quality of their work. Students hope that the variety of tasks from the publisher can be expanded so they can gain more varied experience about the ins and outs of the publishing process, making the internship experience increasingly comprehensive and closer to actual work practice.
The Sastra Inggris Programme FIB Unsoed expressed appreciation for the students’ performance and enthusiasm. The hope is that they can maintain professionalism until the end of the internship period so that both parties truly benefit from this MBKM internship program. Through good collaboration between educational institutions and industry partners, this program is expected to be able to prepare graduates who are more ready to enter the workforce. (RPH)
