Purwokerto—Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) once again held the 5th National Collaboration Seminar of Lecturers and Students, organized by Fakultas Ilmu Budaya (FIB) on Saturday, October 25, 2025. The event, which carried the theme “Critical Thinking Analysis in the Application of Learning, Research, and Community Service in the Fields of Language, Literature, and Culture,” took place in a hybrid format, combining in-person participation in Aula Bambang Lelono and online participation via digital platforms.
The event was officially opened by the Dean of FIB Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Prof. Dr. Ely Triasih Rahayu, M.Hum., who in her opening remarks emphasized the importance of building an academic culture that is critical, collaborative, and relevant to community needs. According to her, higher education institutions are not only responsible for producing competent graduates, but also those who possess sharp thinking skills, scientific argumentation, and the ability to implement knowledge in real life.
“Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Unsoed has consistently provided a collaborative space between lecturers and students through scientific forums like this. The tradition of seminars and publications is not merely a routine, but a tangible manifestation of academic commitment to making knowledge a living, impactful, and networked practice,” said the Dean in her remarks.
Prof. Ely Triasih also appreciated the steps taken by FIB Unsoed to adapt to technological developments by implementing a hybrid seminar model. She added that collaborative activities like this prove that academic output must move towards becoming an outcome that is scientifically recognized and delivers real social impact. She hopes that this activity can foster critical thinking from both lecturers and students, as well as strengthen Unsoed’s academic contribution at the national and international levels.
Following the opening remarks, the event continued with presentations from the keynote speakers. Dr. Collin Jerome from Universiti Malaysia, Sarawak opened the session with a presentation highlighting the role of critical thinking in cultural studies and learning across contexts. The next session was delivered by Dr. Martalia Ardiyaningrum, M.Si. from Universitas Alma Ata, who discussed the application of critical thinking in social-humanities research. Meanwhile, Dr. Asrofin Nur Kholifah, M.Hum. from Universitas Jenderal Soedirman concluded the sessions with an in-depth study on critical thinking practices in community service based on local culture.
The diverse materials presented from various scientific perspectives successfully sparked dynamic discussions and high-quality questions from the participants. The active interaction between speakers and participants reflected the spirit of critical thinking that is the core theme of this year’s seminar. This activity also serves as tangible proof that collaboration between lecturers and students can create an inspiring, interactive, and productive learning space for academic development within FIB Unsoed.
