Purwokerto, 26 July 2025 – Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (FIB Unsoed) once again held an international-scale event titled the International Lecture Series with the theme “Beyond Clicks and Screens: Strengthening Values, Voice, and Vision in the Digital Age”. This event was organized by the Foreign Cooperation Working Team of FIB, presenting a speaker from UM Digos College, Philippines, namely Ana Mae M. Monteza, Ph.D.
The event, held at Aula Bambang Lelono FIB UNSOED, was attended by students and lecturers of FIB Unsoed. In her lecture, Ana Mae M. Monteza, Ph.D. highlighted the importance of strengthening values, voice, and vision in facing the challenges of the digital age, especially for students in the fields of language and literature.
“In an era when online presence speaks louder than spoken words, we need to ask: what kind of story are we building about ourselves?” said Ana Mae M. Monteza, Ph.D. at the start of her session. She invited participants to reflect on how digital technology has shifted the way we express ourselves, shaped communication ethics, and changed the direction of learning.

Through her presentation titled “Global Citizen: Beyond Clicks and Screens”, Ana Mae M. Monteza, Ph.D. explained various issues that often arise in the digital academic world, such as dependence on AI in writing, low critical engagement with texts, and a lack of global awareness in communication. She also emphasized the importance of building ethical, reflective, and globally competitive learner character.

In the dynamic discussion, participants were invited to understand the important role of values such as empathy, integrity, and appreciation of cultural diversity in shaping responsible netizens. Ana Mae M. Monteza, Ph.D. also encouraged students to find their authentic voice in global conversations and to imagine a more just and sustainable future through meaningful digital literacy.
This event is part of FIB Unsoed’s commitment to strengthening international networks and providing global insights to the civitas academica, initiated by the Foreign Cooperation Working Team of FIB, represented in this event by Ririn Kurnia Trisnawati, M.A. as the project manager of the International Lecture Series. In addition, this event not only opened up new insights but also fostered a spirit of cross-cultural collaboration that is increasingly needed in today’s digital era.
With the successful holding of this International Lecture Series, FIB Unsoed not only presents global-level academic insight but also reaffirms its role as a space for cross-cultural dialogue that equips students with values, voice, and vision to face the challenges of the digital age. Through international collaborations such as this, it is hoped that a generation of learners will emerge who are critical, ethical, and ready to make real contributions to the world.
