Banyumas, June 3, 2025 – The D3 Bahasa Mandarin Programme at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman held another field study class as part of the Tourism Course curriculum. The activity took place on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, visiting the historic Kota Lama Banyumas area, located in the center of Banyumas District.
In this activity, students were accompanied by two instructors of the course, Bagus Reza Hariadi and Yuni Astuti, and received direct guidance from the Head of the local Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) as field guide.
During the visit, students toured and were introduced to various important sites that hold the long history of Banyumas Regency, including:
Banyumas District Office Complex, serving as the center of past governance,
Sendang Mas Wayang Museum, which houses a collection of traditional wayang (shadow puppet) and local wayang history,
Taman Sari Complex, an area that once served as a center of aristocratic life,
and walking along Kota Lama Banyumas Street filled with colonial-style buildings and traces of history from times past.
Through direct explanations from the Pokdarwis Head, students not only gained information about the historical and cultural value of Kota Lama Banyumas, but also learned how this potential is developed in the context of the local tourism industry.
Enhancing Student Competencies in Tourism Specialization
Course instructor, Bagus Reza Hariadi, stated that this activity was designed to provide direct field learning experiences, particularly for students specializing in tourism. “We hope students can develop observation skills, cultural interpretation, and tourism narrative packaging that is relevant to Mandarin Chinese and the current tourism world,” he said.
Similarly, Yuni Astuti added that direct interaction with local tourism managers also trains cross-sectoral communication skills and fosters awareness of local potential that could be promoted more widely, both nationally and internationally.
With enthusiasm for learning outside the classroom, this activity is expected to strengthen students’ understanding of course material while preparing them to become professional workers who not only master the language, but also understand the cultural and historical context of Indonesian tourism destinations.
